Onsite Instruction
Research Instruction – Librarians are available to provide personal instruction to alumni. Alumni may schedule a meeting with their personal librarian or contact the reference department via telephone or e-mail to obtain assistance.
Onsite Assistance - Individuals may contact their personal librarian to schedule an on-campus appointment to receive instruction in the use of research databases and advanced search mechanics. Alumni may also request a library orientation or tour to become familiar with the Lewis Library.
Office Productivity Tool Coursework - Lewis Library offers courses that allow users to become more proficient in the use of office productivity tools. Classes in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows and more are offered upon request. Please contact the Technical Support Department to arrange a course at 817-735-2288.
Offsite Instruction
Remote Assistance – Alumni may obtain research assistance or instruction remotely by calling the reference office, e-mailing the office, or scheduling a database demonstration teleconference.
- Teleconference / remote instruction session (by appointment): Alumni may schedule an appointment with librarians to receive instruction in the use of databases via virtual network computing software which allows remote users to view a database demonstration at their desktop. Call 817-735-2070 to schedule a session.
- E-mail: Alumni may request reference assistance via e-mail at http://library.hsc.unt.edu/forms/information.cfm. Librarians monitor this e-mail account Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Central Time. For evening, weekend, or holiday assistance please contact the library directly by calling 817-735-2070.

Continuing Education & Outreach
The Lewis Library provides outreach to Health Science Center alumni and health professionals in the Fort Worth area. Under the guidelines of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, we function as the Medical and Health Resource Library for twenty-four Texas counties west of Fort Worth. We also have state-wide responsibility to serve as the primary information resource for all of the Doctors of Osteopathy and osteopathic facilities in Texas.
Classes noted below may be offered on campus or at your institution. Contact the Outreach Librarian at 817-735-2601 to discuss these services or to arrange a class.
In our Outreach capacity we provide the following services:
- Professional Education Classes:
- Courses describing effective database searching techniques.
- Instruction in the use of research tools for Allied Health Professionals.
- On-demand courses tailored to the research interests of specific professions (i.e. Internal Medicine, Oncology Nursing, Statistic resources for Public Health Practitioners, etc.).
- Consumer Health Education:

Exhibits and booths at local Health Fairs.
- National Library of Medicine Resource Classes
- The library teaches classes in the use of National Library of Medicine databases and resources. Examples of classes that may be offered are noted below. Nurses may receive CNE credit for attendance.
- Introduction to PubMed Searching (CNE Credit available).
- Consumer Health Resources from the National Library of Medicine (CNE Credit available).

- Promote National Library of Medicine Services
- Provide Alumni with information describing NLM Educational Fellowships and Grants.
- Assist Alumni in identifying NLM grant and research funding opportunities.
