Information About Our Home Town

Lewis Library and the University of North Texas Health Science Center are located in the vibrant and growing city of Fort Worth, Texas.  Mixing the traditional with the new, Fort Worth never ceases to surprise visitors with its blend of urban and cowboy cultures.  The downtown area has been redeveloped into the always "hopping" Sundance Square area and offers a safe environment with a variety of dining and shopping opportunities.  One of the more popular downtown destinations is the Bass Performance Hall.   Here, you will regularly see well dressed couples (men preferably in tux with cowboy hat and boots) attending a wide variety of events, including the quadrennial Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

The library sits about two miles west of downtown on the edge of the Cultural District. This park-like area is home to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and several world class museums and entertainment venues.  The library is within a very short walk of the following attractions:

When you are done perusing the likes of Picasso, Remington, and Warhol, you can switch gears and step across the street to attend events such as the Fort Worth Stock Show or visit the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.  Fort Worth is literally brimming with other western heritage locales and lore.  (Hey, Will Rogers wasn't kidding when he said "Fort Worth is where the west begins.")  For more information on the numerous Fort Worth historical destinations see the western heritage section of the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau web page.

Just so you don't think we are alone in tooting our horn, a May 11, 2003 article by Roberta Smith in the New York Times travel section had this to say about the Fort Worth cultural district:

"There are not many places where you can contemplate new museum architecture without getting depressed, view extraordinary groupings of European and American paintings and have an epiphany in feminist history all in the same day, while stumbling across a calf-cutting contest and never once have to resort to vehicular transportation. All these high points were within comfortable walking distance of one another. "

Of course, we are located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, where you will find an endless array of entertainment possibilities.  Numerous media outlets make their home in the Metroplex, including the two major newspapers; the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Dallas Morning News.  The cost of living in the area is surprisingly low with housing prices being extremely reasonable.  Of course, Texas has no state income tax.

All of the above adds up to us thinking that we have a great place to live and work.  If you want to check it out, come visit us sometime.  We look forward to seeing y'all.
