Featured Resource: DynaMed
Lewis Library provides access to DynaMed™, a clinical, evidence-based reference database for use by health care professionals at the point of care. Created by physicians, it contains more than 3,200 topic summaries, such as diseases and conditions, symptoms, and medications. Levels of evidence are included, as are ICD-9/10 codes and links to references.
DynaMed editors monitor the content of more than 500 medical journals; each article is evaluated for clinical relevance and scientific validity. The new evidence is then integrated with existing content, and overall conclusions are changed as appropriate, representing a synthesis of the best available evidence. Through this process of Systematic Literature Surveillance, the best available evidence determines the content of DynaMed.
The database is updated on a daily basis. A 2011 research article published in the British Medical Journal showed that DynaMed is much better at including new evidence than its competitors.
A mobile version of DynaMed is available on the Skyscape platform. To get a free serial number valid for one year, UNTHSC students, faculty, and staff members should contact the DynaMed vendor directly.
