The Gibson D. Lewis Library at the University of North Texas Health Science Center was awarded the Partners in Public Health Information Outreach subcontract from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region in 2005. The award allowed the Lewis Library to increase access to information resources for public health practitioners in fifteen rural, medically-underserved areas within its twenty-four county outreach region.

Public Health Information for Practitioners (PHIP) provided training in pertinent databases and other resources applicable to public health professionals. It also familiarized practitioners with mobile technology trends and devices, specifically, PDA’s and Tablet PCs.
