University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth
Policy on Use of the Library
Introduction
The primary mission of the Gibson D. Lewis Library is to serve the educational, research, service, and patient care needs of UNTHSC students, staff, and faculty. In so far as it is consistent with this mission, the library is also open to the public. Individuals needing access to biomedical or health information or to the library’s unique resources are welcome to use Lewis Library. In order to balance our missions of service to the UNTHSC community and to the public at large, Lewis Library issues the following policy.
Policy
- Use of Lewis Library is restricted to UNTHSC students, staff, and faculty and to members of the general public desiring access to biomedical or health information or to the unique resources of the library for research. Those not engaged in such activity may be asked to yield resources (such as computer workstations) to others for research.
- Anyone who engages in disruptive behavior or inappropriate activities, or who fails to comply with UNTHSC policy, will be asked to leave the library.
- Visitors to the library are required to stop at the main entrance service desk, present a photo ID, and sign in. They are issued a visitor badge which must be visibly worn during their time in the library.
- Library study rooms, meeting rooms, and media viewing rooms are only for the use of UNTHSC students, staff, and faculty. Exceptions may be made upon request for groups visiting the library for educational purposes. For more information, see the Policy on Use of Library Rooms at http://library.hsc.unt.edu/policies/roomuse.cfm.
- The library makes online work stations available so that students, staff, faculty, and the general public can access library collections and other information resources for the purpose of research. Users of work stations must adhere to applicable licensing restrictions, copyright law, and UNTHSC policy.
- As fully explained in the Policy on Children in the Library, children under the age of 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian. This policy can be found online at http://library.hsc.unt.edu/policies/children.cfm.
- Lewis Library adheres to UNTHSC Institutional General Policy 6.0, Bulletin Boards/Posting Notices and does not allow notices, advertisements, or memos to be affixed to library walls, doors, or windows. The library does provide three bulletin boards for the posting of campus-related notices. Items to be posted on the bulletin boards must be approved by the library's Administrative Office.
- This policy shall be considered and applied in conformity with other UNTHSC policies, including but not limited to UNTHSC Institutional General Policy 5.0, Facilities Use Coordination and Policy 6.0, Bulletin Boards/Posting Notices.
Lewis Library policies can be found online at http://library.hsc.unt.edu/policies/index.cfm. Print copies of the policies can be obtained at the library Circulation Desk.
