PsycINFO , a citation database produced by the American Psychological Association (APA), contains more than three million records in the behavioral sciences from nearly 2500 indexed journals. If your next PubMed search related to psychology comes up short, consider a search in PsycINFO! PsycINFO also provides coverage of the psychological aspects of other disciplines, such as law, social work, and nursing.
Searchers can use search limits that are relevant to the discipline of psychology, such as Methodology, Tests & Measures, and APA’s Classification Codes for subject matter. In addition to keyword searching, PsycINFO can also be searched with a controlled vocabulary, the Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms. Think of this as similar to PubMed’s MeSH Thesaurus, but focused specifically on the subject matter and terminology of psychology and behavioral health. If you would like to learn about these search features, please call (817-735-2070) to set up a meeting with an Instruction Librarian.
PsycINFO was previously available from Lewis Library through the APA website, but has recently migrated to the familiar EBSCOhost platform. This means PsycINFO can now be searched simultaneously with other databases on the EBSCOhost platform, including EBSCO’s Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection. PyscINFO is available to UNTHSC students, staff, and faculty, and can be accessed by visiting the All Databases A-Z list under the Shortcuts to Resources menu on the library homepage.
